Live on the Word

Man Shall Not Live on Bread Alone

We can keep trying to search for answers in this world to our most common problems, but in the end we are going to come up empty handed. We need to remain with our eyes fixed on the things above and not fall under the temptations of the world, or our end will result in destruction.

But He answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4

Worship: Not Only A Privilege, But A Command

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). Take this scripture and place it into the context of worship. Singing praises, praying with fellow believers, discussing how God is working in your life, and reading the Bible are all things we do to show our commitment and zeal for the Lord.

Look Again

Through the Eyes of God

Mark 10:14 “Let the children come to Me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”

Ask any couple who is pregnant or anyone who already has children if they had a preference to having a son or daughter and they will respond most of the time, “I just want to have a healthy baby.” I have heard so many times that once their baby was born they immediately counted the fingers and toes and then breathed a sigh of relief. This fact is so important to most of us with children that we had a test done during the pregnancy to determine if the baby would have some sort of defect in their DNA.

Rejoice Always

Endure and REJOICE

Romans 5:3-4

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.”

Rejoice? Really? Seriously ? How?

That was the statement my heart cried out the first time I read that scripture. I was in the middle of a horrible moment in my life and wanted to read how God would take revenge on those who were hurting me. I didn’t want to rejoice and build character in endurance. I wanted to be angry and cry and, yes, throw something very large and heavy at someone…

Maybe Later

What’s Your Number One Priority?

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to Him and said, ‘Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.’ But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.’” – Luke 10:38-42

Follow The Leader

A Time to Talk and A Time to Walk

“Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
– James 1:22

There are so many things we can say about our Jesus. He is the King of Kings, He is merciful, He is invincible, and He is… well, S.M. Lockridge says it best.

But one thing that we often forget in our quest to be more Christ-like is to walk.

The Benefits of Reading God’s Word

Many times when we are asked to do something, we want to know what we will get out of it. This is our FLESH talking. We must do things simply for the benefit of blessing another individual and not be worried about what we may get out of it. I often have people ask me what I get out of reading the Bible. I tell them that I can sit here all day and give an account of how much reading my Word daily has blessed me, but that is not good enough.

Widen Your Circle… Defeat Discouragement

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” – James 5:16

Can a Christian get caught in a spiral of Discouragement? Yes. It can isolate us from fellowship, relationships, prayer and the expression of worship. Widening the circle and confessing sins, one to another, subverts the enemy’s tactics and derails the potential for defeat.

On My Knees

Bring Me To My Knees

Luke 14:33 “So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.”

There are so many things that I love in life. I love my wife and daughter. I love good music and a good book. And I love good food. We use that word so easily to describe things in our life and it has so many different meanings. But when we don’t have them, many times we just find something else to replace it with. For example, if I can’t have that ice cream I love so much I just find the next best thing and have that; I realize I love it just as much. But there are some things that I can’t do without, like my family. I don’t know what I would do without them in my life.

    Well-Intended People
Recently I began reading a book called “Well-Intentioned Dragons” by Marshall Shelley. The crux of the book is dealing with problem people. When God calls us to build His kingdom it is not likely that your takeoff will be smooth. You may need to clear your runway, even before you take off. What you will [...]

    Do You Love Your Church?
I love what Jesus says about the church. The church is the bride of Christ. He loves the church because the church is a place where we tell people about Jesus and what He did for us. It’s a place where we can share each others burdens and be a family. When you brag on [...]

    The Spirit is Moving
The word of God says that Jesus has ascended into heaven and at this very time sits at the right hand of God the Father. If that is not enough for you, according to John 16:7, Jesus sends us the Holy Spirit to live within each believer. John 16:8 also happens to give us the [...]

    Lead!
When we think of Moses, we think “Leader” with a capital L. The guy was awesome! It seemed like daily he would look to heaven and say “OK God, what next?!” And as another day passed, Moses would again look to heaven and say “How about today, Lord, tell me what to do.” Moses was [...]

Verse of the Day

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
