I had the “wonderful” opportunity to visit Salt Lake City this past week. Very “interesting” place. As I was driving into the city I drove by the Great Salt Lake. The Great Salt Lake is an amazing sight to see because of its great size and beauty. You can actually see the salt resting on the surface of this natural wonder that spans as far as your eyes can see. One very interesting thing about the Great Salt Lake is that nothing (almost nothing) can live in its waters! So, on the surface, you see this natural wonder with all of its size and beauty, yet underneath, it is DEAD! Even more interesting than that, as I arrived in the city and walked around the town, I saw people who were exactly the same! Alive, beautiful on the outside… dead on the inside.
So, I got to thinking, are we ever like that? Do we put on a show and “look” the part on the outside, while our souls are dead (or dying) on the inside? I can tell you, two years ago, that was me! The Word of God is clear that everything that is hidden in darkness will someday be brought to life. We can pretend on the outside and the world may never know, but God knows.
This is not meant to scare us; this is meant to provide us with an opportunity to Glorify Him with our lives! The angels are watching us to see God’s glory manifest in His church and others are watching us as ambassadors of the King. Let’s’ not fall into the trap of believing we can live two lives, one on the surface and one underneath… instead let us continue to “do” the things that God has called us to do (surface), while letting the Word of God transform us daily (underneath), so that our surface matches what is underneath!
