Moments before Ray Ortlund passed, he closed his life much like the biblical Jacob. At 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2007 he called for his wife of sixty-one years, Anne, and his children. He gave each a personal encouragement, sang, prayed, gave his final benediction over his children, and died shortly after. No question, for 84 years Ray Ortlund was one of those rare, wonderful “bright lights” that everyone cherishes meeting. What made him so special? Wherever Ray went he brought an unforgettable smile of hope, joy, infectious laughter, and irresistible Christ-like love that inspired and enriched whomever he touched.
What is the family legacy you are building? What closing words would you share if you only had an hour to live? May these words challenge you to live a life that honors Jesus Christ.
