You expect them. You don’t always see them coming, but you know they’re there. I’m not talking about children, I’m talking about trials. We’ve all asked the same questions to a Holy God who knows what’s best for us. Why God? What did I do? How can this happen? Everything was fine, but why now?
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4
We may never have all the answers. We may never get the explanation that we’re looking for. But one thing is for sure, God is in control. God allows it. That may be hard to swallow, but we must turn to His Word and find comfort in it, knowing that it is for our very benefit. Verse 4 says, “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing“. Did you get that? That you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. Not only does our Heavenly Father allow trials, but He provides that peace and patience that we’re looking for, when we need it.
James continues, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God“. You see, He desires for us to turn to Him during the hardship. When we ask for comfort, He will indeed comfort us. When we ask for patience, He will give us patience. And when we ask for anything else, He will show us the scars in His hands, and He will say “My love for you is great. I gave My life so that you may have life. Trust Me my child, I will carry you.”
Let us rest in Him, knowing that He alone is worthy.
