“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8.
It may be hard to walk by faith, and it may seem harder when trials hit. Jeremiah says “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord”. Why are we blessed? It is because we have humbled ourselves, we walk in the unknown, we walk blindly, but most importantly, we walk knowing that Jesus will carry our load and guide us. And when we do this, the scripture tells us that we are like a “tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots”.
When the word of God is planted into our hearts, something beautiful starts to grow. It’s a relationship with our heavenly Father, and scripture describes us as a tree. Not just any tree, but a tree planted by the waters. That means we never have to thirst for anything else, because He gives us what we need to get by. Simplicity. When the Israelites were wondering in the wilderness, for 40 years, God had provided manna from heaven to help them get through the day. Simplicity. All they needed was bread and He provided it. When we are in Christ and we walk by faith, we are like trees planted by the waters, and we spread our roots by the river and we will not fear when heat comes. We will not fear, because the Lord is near and perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18).
When heat and fear approaches, our leaves will continue to be green and we will not be anxious in the year of drought, but we will continue to yield fruit. Jesus provides the strength to help us when we call to Him. He takes us by our hand and places us on a solid rock. We shall be the tree, and He is the Son that will give life to those who abide in Him.
