As I look at the kids of Lakeshore, I see the same thing over and over. They know Jesus, they love Jesus, and they worship Jesus. Now, that comes as no surprise to me because I also see the kids’ teachers. They know Jesus, they love Jesus, and they worship Jesus. But,why is it that when I was a little kid in Sunday School, I knew how to say “I love Jesus”, but it took another 20 years before I actually knew what that meant? The answer: The Gospel!
Part of the requirements for leadership in Lakeshore is that the Gospel has affected you, you know the gospel, and, most importantly, you know how to present the Gospel to ANYONE. And, in that last requirement is the key to my point today; that we can present the Gospel to ANYONE, even kids. What happens frequently is that the Gospel presenter assumes that God’s power is only for adults; that the Holy Spirit can only work in someone once they’re past, say, 15. But, the Word of God says “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to EVERYONE (emphasis added) who believes…” (Romans 1:16 ESV). See, God says that His power is for everyone who believes, the kids too.
So, next time you have the opportunity to be bombarded with Jesus questions from a young one, remember, it’s “…the power of God for salvation to EVERYONE who believes…” (Romans 1:16 ESV)
