I read the scriptures and I read the scriptures and I read the scriptures and then, BAM, it hits me: the Jesus I knew growing up was NOT the Jesus of the Bible!
Here’s a quick of list of who I knew Jesus as:
- an addition
- a luxury
- a Sunday identity
- a good guy
- some dude from 2000 years ago
But, that’s NOT the Jesus of the Bible. I read the scriptures and I see hundreds of prophecies predicting the coming of Jesus Christ, in detail. I read the scriptures and see miracles done with the authority of God. I read the scriptures and see a 30 year old man who NEVER sinned.
These things show me that Jesus Christ is so much more than a bumper sticker or a “homeboy”. He is THE Lord and THE Savior.
But, the funny thing about the English language is that it tends to lose its meaning with constant repetition. Go ahead, try it. Say the word ‘amazing’ 23 times, over and over. It sounds weird now, right? It doesn’t even feel like it has any meaning. Here’s my point: for me to really live out the Word of God, I had to say and hear it in my soul and spirit, not just my mouth. See, when we just give ourselves some lip-service, that’s all we get, lip-service. But, when we really dig deep in the scriptures and let it change us, then we can live with the fruits of our labor.
Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. You just read it, but did you GET it?
Until the whole word hears,
Scott
